Wireless Charging Guide: Everything You Need to Know

February 15, 2026 6 min read By Wireless Rehab Team

How Wireless Charging Works

Wireless charging uses electromagnetic induction to transfer power from a charging pad to your phone. The charger contains a transmitter coil that creates an alternating magnetic field, which induces a current in a receiver coil inside your phone. This current charges the battery without any physical electrical connection.

The Qi Standard

Qi (pronounced "chee") is the universal wireless charging standard maintained by the Wireless Power Consortium. Nearly every phone with wireless charging supports Qi, including iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones, Google Pixels, and most other Android devices.

Qi chargers deliver power at 5W, 7.5W, 10W, or 15W depending on the charger and phone. iPhones typically max out at 7.5W on standard Qi chargers and 15W on MagSafe chargers. Android phones vary, with some supporting 15W on standard Qi.

MagSafe vs Standard Qi

MagSafe is Apple's enhancement to Qi charging that adds a magnetic ring for precise alignment. Standard Qi chargers work with MagSafe phones but at reduced speed (7.5W instead of 15W). MagSafe-certified chargers deliver the full 15W speed.

The 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station delivers 15W fast charging and can charge your phone, watch, and earbuds simultaneously from a single powered base.

Wireless Charging Speed vs Wired Charging

Wireless charging is inherently less efficient than wired charging. Some energy is lost as heat during the inductive transfer, and the charging speed is generally lower. Here is a comparison:

  • Standard Qi (5-10W): 3-4 hours for a full charge
  • MagSafe (15W): 2-2.5 hours for a full charge
  • Wired PD (18-65W): 30-60 minutes for a full charge

Wireless charging is best suited for situations where convenience matters more than speed — overnight charging, desk use during the day, or quick top-ups.

Magnetic Wireless Power Banks

One of the most practical wireless charging accessories is a magnetic power bank. These snap onto the back of your phone and charge wirelessly, no cable needed. The Silicone Magnetic Wireless Power Bank offers 10,000mAh capacity with 15W wireless charging. It is perfect for travel, commuting, or any time you need power on the go.

Wireless Charging in the Car

Wireless charging car mounts combine phone mounting with Qi charging, so your phone charges while you drive and navigate. The Wireless Charging Car Mount clips to your dashboard and charges your phone while holding it in view for navigation.

Best Practices for Wireless Charging

  • Remove thick metal or magnetic cases before charging — they can interfere with induction
  • Keep the charging pad and phone back clean — dust and debris reduce efficiency
  • Avoid using your phone heavily while wireless charging — it generates additional heat
  • Position the phone centered on the pad for optimal alignment
  • Use a quality charger — cheap uncertified chargers can deliver inconsistent power
